exchange rate/Windsor

Hey folks

I'm headed to Windsor this weekend for a bachelor party(Yep...MyCarDick aka Whitey is gettin hitched!). We're hitting the casino and some "other" places on Saturday.

Question is this.....do I/can I exchange my U.S. bucks in the casino, or do I need to do it elsewhere.

The casino will be glad to take your US dollars. As will the "other" places--though you'll get a much better rate at the casino...

Where possible, use your credit card this weekend. They usually give the best exchange rate possible. As far as cash for the "other" entertainment and your gambling, whatever you do, don't exchange cash at your hotel or pay US dollars at a retail business and get your change in Candanian funds. They will give you the worst rate possible. If you get there on a Friday, stop by any big bank and you will get a fair exchange rate. If not, try any major bank in your home town. Current rate is about 85 cents Canadian for 1 US Dollar. Don't accept anything less than 80 cents per dollar and that's really pushing it as it is. Don't forget to get your tax refund form and save your reciepts so you can get the sales tax you paid refunded back to you.

Before making charges you may want to check with your CC Co. for foreign currency charges. My Visa (Providian Platinum) didn't used to, but as of April 1, 2005 they began to do so. I was charged a service fee while in Mexico (1% of all my Int'l charges).

When we'd go up to Windsor, we exchanged our cash at the Casino. They gave us a decent rate. A bank will likely have the best exchange rate.

Here in the Buffalo / Fort Erie, Canada area the casinos ALWAYS give the BEST rates. Even better than banks on either side of the border. We live so close to the border that once we exchange US funds into funny money we never switch it back because you will lose 4% and it is only a matter of time before we are back up visiting or northern cousins.;)

P.S. Buy all the gas you can on the US side because Canada is very high on Etheal.:confused:
