NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Where am I going to play $3 blackjack on the strip on the weekends now? I get there on November 20th too. That sucks. When the Ho goes down. I wonder what will then be the world's largest motel

I just looked at the Ho's reservation system, they are "sold out" from Nov. 17 on. Too bad. Where did you get the info?

Gator5220
09-14-2005, 01:51 PM
The Ho website will not allow any reservations after the 17th of November, all dates show as sold out. The Casino Dealers website stated that the 17th is the closing date.

I can't find any other info right now but I hope there will be a story soon in the Sun or the RJ.

Wow! Called to confirm and to find out any details. Turns out he Ho (on Industrial) will close, as well. No word, what's to come though.

Hasn't the Ho only been open for about a year?? Yikes.

This is an exceedingly sad day for me. I genuinely like the Westward Ho! I like having a super cheap place to stay and play on the Strip. This must have just been recently decided, because I had a room booked during MM. I booked it last month. I guess I need to get to looking for another room...

I never got to taste a Ho Dog.

Apparently Tracy Suttles has been trying to puchase Westward Ho since 2003. After several falling outs a suit was filed in Clark County District Court on 6/9/05 against Westward Ho Properties LLC, Westward Ho Casino LLC, F and D Enterprises and a private party . Case number 05-A-505197-B. On 6/17/05 Westward Ho submitted a Motion to Dismiss/Motion for Partial Summary Judgment. On August 22, 2005 a partial summary judgment was granted in the case as to Westward Ho Properties, Westward Ho Casino and F and D Enterprises. So here's my theory. There was another buyer that actually had the capital waiting for this to resolve. Once the partial summary judment was issued it cleared the way for the LLCs to sell their holdings. Thus the reason I was able to reserve a room for March last month.

WHEW!

Sin - nice work, counsellor.

boxcars - I think its the Ho that's buying it, as in, done. Extremely sad, but that land is appreciating quickly and development is steamrolling north. Doesn't look like my November trip will be soon enough to catch it...

Doc one more reason to do what everyone has been buggin ya to do and that's head out for s & m.

I'll lay odds that my legal research and amazing powers of deduction gleaned from lots and lots of hard work in law school bears my theory out.

What?! No more Ho-Dogs?!? I'll have to make sure to grab my last one next month.

I wonder if the Stardust snapped up the property for part of their future plans?

Man, you guys are moping around like you got the word of the imminent passing of a an old friend. Has anyone actually been to the Ho lately? It's a dump! Past it's prime--it's gotta go. Now, I've got nothing against dumps though--I'll gladly roll the bones at the El Cortez or play 10-cent roulette at the Klondike... But the Ho had the shittiest rules on all of their table games--even worse than most of the big resorts on the strip.

3x4x5x odds on Craps? Nope. Double odds only.
Resplit aces on blackjack? Nope
Double after split? Nope
Dealer hit on soft 17? Yep

I mean, come on folks--There was absolutely no good reason to go there except for the 75 cent beers and the chance of having a race with the devil to find the nearest restroom after downing the Ho dog...but otherwise, the place is a clip joint to the nth degree.

I for one will not miss it in the least.

Mikey

Are we looking at 1.00 beers now as a cheap North Strip Thirst quencher at Slots of Fun?
I thought I heard they increased the cost of the Heiny's there, a while back??

Anybody know?

Ross, next time I see you I'll give you a roll of quarters so you can make up the difference between the 75 cent beers and the $1 ones. Splurge a little

Mikey, the Ho may be a dump, but it was the very last place one could always count on a cheap room. The Ho, may be a dump, but you probably wouldn't be in such great shape if you opened your doors to the masses in 67 either. Yes, the Ho may be a dump, but it is a dump that allowed people like me who are broke like jokes most of the time to go to go to Vegas and stay on the strip. I mean, the Ho's rooms were cheaper than the freakin motel 6 and travelodge that are on the strip. Yes, the Ho had crappy odds on their table games. Yes, the Ho hasn't been truly renovated since it opened. Yes, the Ho smells funky. But you know what? The Ho also allowed tons of people to visit Mecca that couldn't afford to stay anywhere else. It is an oldie and it should be honored as such. I mourn the passing of the broke person's friend!

You might add that they had possibly the worst Elvis impersonator in town.

Architecturally speaking, there's only a couple links left to the motel culture that used to dominate the strip. Algiers is on it's way out, I guess that leaves the (endangered list) Stardust, maybe Circus Jerkus?

First Vegas show on my first trip to Vegas was at Westward Ho. It was a cheesy matinee variety show costing about $10, complete with watered down drinks in cheap plastic cups and metal folding chairs for seating. The acts weren't very memorable except for the guy that shot ping pong balls out of his mouth about 20 feet in the air, then he would catch it in his mouth and launch it again. That was my last visit to the Ho.
How long will it be before they run the budget gamblers out of town. Long live the dumps.http://www.travel2vegas.com/ubb/graemlins/peace.gif

Yeah, Mikey I do agree they had some sh*tty rules there for their table games. I can't stand double odds myself. But hey, you can't help but laugh when you order that stupid hot-dog and pile chili and cheese on top of it and wash it down with a horribly bad 99cent Margarita. Only then to go commando because you couldn't make it to the bathroom all the way in the back of Slots-o-Fun in time.

I guess I'll have to make the most of the Ho when I stay there next month (T-30 days!!!).

Have a reservation Sat the 15th, followed by 3 nights at Harrah's. Got a great price of $70, plus Saturday arrivals were allowed.

This is will be my first time flying in on a Saturday... I did not realize how many places do not allow for Saturday arrivals.

Add Ho to the "Pay My Respects" list for S & M. HO & Boardwalk back to back - I might as well cab it back to Gold Spike & go for the hat trick. Let's all play "Name That Funky Smell".

I usuallya fly in on a saturday for a week. Flights are cheaper but some hotels won't allow checkins. Since I have a 4 day show and stay for a week or more, I have some flexibility. Sometimes I come in on tuesday.....cheap flight, and no restrictions on check in.....same # of days and prices. I have also been known to sacrifice and stay an extra day or two to get a non-stop flight rather than having to switch planes.

This is a huge blow to my Vegas experience. I stayed at the Ho 4 weeks ago with 7 pals and everyone of them decided their best times were spent at the Ho (and vicinity) itself.

Proximity to the Stardust sports book, cheap booze, and cheap food are huge factors on where I stay in Vegas. Another one bites the dust.

  You must have a better man than me, in your beau, if yours could keep one of those nasty edibles in his gullet. I bet his nickname in school was "IronGuts"

Fed for a day.....barf thru a night.... :yuck: :yuck:

He's just a polish boy... used to eating polish deli hot dogs. It was pretty similar to the 'dogs his dad gets from the polish deli. We both thought it was a nice garlicy dog (I did have to take a bite).

Ah well. In any case... sad to see anything like a Motel 6 go, with my fondness for all the fun in my youth I had at Motel 6s.

Although I have never stayed at the Ho or played anything other than a I Dream of Jennie machine,(once we were waiting for the bus to take us south strip and Brandy had to go to the rest room so we jotted in there. While I waited I lost a quick $5 in nickels) I will miss the Ho. The reason is, as most of you know, I am a big believer of the low cost rooms at the Riv. Everytime I walk out of the Riv for now on and I don't see the sighn that yells hot dog .99 cents or $1.49 or whatever the price is now a days I will know then that a true part of Vegas is gone.
Its just like when Binion's closed down......okay scratch that thought

It's official. The official website (http://www.westwardho.com/) now says they will close for good at 5PM on November 17th. I'm going to be there on the 18th, but I'm actually trying to see if I can work it out so I can get there a day early for one more Ho dog. I have many fond memories of daring friends to eat multiple dogs. Guess I gotta take them to the Laughing Jackalope for that giant burger now.

A Wisconsin radio station will be doing a remote 7-11am at the Ho! on the 16th. Jean Scott, the Queen, will be a guest at 8:40am.

Ho is me. My first royal occured at the Ho! in 1993, a $1332 hit.
