Hi there
Do many casinos run regular poker sessions throughout the day in Vegas?
I'm aware that the roulette wheel, craps, blackjack and so on are all v. popular and you can just sit down and play.
But i'm a little hazy on where i could get involved with poker - is it mainly satellites played to get into big tournaments - or are there many low limit games continually played throughout day where you can sit down and leave as you please?
Any info would be great - i'm pretty good at the online variety, want to play the "real life" type when i go over in november
if it's a dumb question, sorry about that, just not too sharp on these things. :o

You'll find all kinds of cash games as well as tournaments. Actually the non tournament games are easier to find than tournies. Downtown, there is a poker room at Golden Nugget, Binions, Plaza and El Cortez (sometimes they're really in a room, many times it's a few tables set aside). Off-Strip, I know Orleans has a poker room. There are many on the Strip: Mandalay Bay, Luxor, MGM Grand, Monte Carlo, Bellagio (one of the best ones according to those who play), Aladdin, Monte Carlo, Imperial Palace and Wynn. It's a growing phenomenon. You won't have any trouble sitting down. It's standing up that's the hard part :wink2:

I'd also check the LVA poker tourney section (www.lasvegasadvisor.com). It lists every room in Vegas and also has tournament info if you want it.

Good stuff Big Al. I had no idea there were so many little tournaments in Vegas. I'd like to get in on some of that, but I have a lot of show and dinner reservations. How long do the tournaments usually take? Anyone know? I'd like to see if I could fit one or two into my schedule.

That could be difficult. I don't play the tournaments, but I've seen them go on for a long time (6-7 hours). If you really want to play one, Luxor's tournaments are designed to run about 2-3 hours (low starting chips, aggressive blinds).
I wouldn't recommend a tournament if you have reservations, or even just a SO who wants you to actually pay attention to her for some part of the day.

A tournament only lasts as long as you are in it, of course...
A nice tourney to play in for rookies and people with full schedules is the Plaza's midnight tourney downtown, which is about $50 to get into. It runs most days.
