Hey Everyone,
I'm looking for the best poker room on the strip.
I played 2-4 Holdem at I.P. last year and it was terrible.
I'm from Philadelphia and I go to the Borgata and Ballys for my poker fix in A.C.
I'm staying at the Aladdin and I've read some reviews and It seems Billagio and Mirage are the top rooms.
Let me know your opinion.
Thanks,
Scott

Hubby also plays at Borgata in AC, and recently stayed at Wynn using the poker room rate. He loved the Wynn poker room. He also loves Bellagio and Mirage, and likes Aladdin.

What are you looking to play? 2/4 again? If so, most of the major casino poker rooms won't have it.

2-4 is available at MGM, Luxor, Ballys, Aladdin plus others. The MGM is my favorite, a very nice place to play. The lowest limits at Bellagio, Mirage and Mandalay Bay are 3-6 (Mirage) or 4-8.

Bellagio is 4/8 now for a minimum. Or at least that's what I read.

I would say Bellagio has the best room. ( I haven't seen wynn's yet). They don't have 2-4, but they do have 3-6 or maybe 4-8.

If it's 2/4 you're interested in, Aladdin may be a good option for you. It's a nice room, and every time they've been there, there's been a 2/4 game going.
Aladdin also offers a poker room rate. If you play 5-6 hours a day, you can get a pretty heavily discounted room rate. If you want, you can call the poker room at (702) 785-5555 for further information.

I'm not sure if you didn't like IP's game quality or environment, so I'll try to address both. IMO, except for their comps and cocktail waitresses/service, IP is way down the list of Strip poker rooms.
If your issue with the IP was the game quality, you're going to have to move up in limits to either 4/8 or 6/12. These games are still beatable, but you won't see a capped family pot nearly as often.
My favorite room in Vegas is the Alladin. I think it has a great setup, decent cocktail service, and good games. Since you're staying there, I'd at least check it out.
The Mirage has great management and staff, but the tables are all jammed together and the room is usually uncomfortably warm. Cocktail service is crap. The 3/6 games have a higher level of play than is normal for Vegas. They have a good 6/12 game and the only 5/10 O8B game that I'm aware of. I don't really recommend the Mirage unless you want to play the 6/12 or 08B games.
I've not played at Bellagio, but I've heard the lines are typically pretty long. The one time I checked it out, the list was pretty deep for the 4/8 game.
MGM's new room is supposed to be pretty nice. I wanted to check it out in July, but I couldn't get over there.

The Nugget had the best room period, until they jammed in the corner by the snack bar...
I really like the room at MB, good all around. And you can se the sportsbook postings from there. It gets crowded, but they usually have a few dealers in the bullpen ready to jumpstart a new table. The beverage service is better than average, but if Carmen brings your drink, then it's just first class. They are willing to comp a player six bucks after 5 hours of play, and that usually covers the chicken strips at the snackbar.
I picked up many jackpots during MMI. I was able to post huge wins that trip for poker, and that may have jaded my opinion of the room.

Thanks for the imput.
I'm looking for a 3-6 or 4-8 game this time around.
At the I.P. the game was ok, but thier room is terrible and there was only 2 tables going. Not a very good atmosphere.
Also I'm staying 3 nights and I plan on playing at least 12 hours of poker and I want to try to get something for my time.
About the Discounted rooms, generally how much of a cheaper rate can you get?
Thanks a lot.

We just stayed at Wynn at the poker room rate. It was $129 Thursday and Sunday nights and $199 on Friday and Saturday nights. Not cheap, except when compared to their rack rate.
Mirage poker room rate is $99/night weeknights. Can't remember the weekend rate off the top of my head though.

I have a few questions here. I love poker, but I'm a casino poker virgin. Any advice for a newbie? What's a good place to play when you are just starting out? Are there any places where a newbie might could get a lesson?
Now my wife and I play poker with our friends pretty often and I am terrible. I sometimes go All-In on the second hand and will end up in the living room watching TV while everyone else enjoys a night of poker. My wife wins much more than I do, but has a much more unorthodox style. She has no strategy, no rhyme or reason to anything she does, she just plays. This seems to throw off our regular crowd. Just like last week for example, her and I were heads up. The flop was....
5 7 8
I told her I could tell by the way she bet she had a 6 and was one card away from a straight. I had pocket jacks and the turn was a jack, so I moved all in. She drew a 4 on the river and took me down. This seems to happen between us all the time. She did have the 6 by the way and was amazed I knew she had the 6.
Now here's my question, who is better suited for a casino poker room? Me, who continually calculates the odds and tries to make the best play, or her who is so erratic you have no idea what she is doing. I mean, you don't call an all-in with 5 6 7 8 and one card to come, do you?
She's been giving me a pretty hard time telling me to stick with blackjack and she'll handle the poker. I always give her a royal beating at BJ. Same kind of thing as with poker. I play by the book and she does what she feels is best. I flip out every time I see her stand on a 14 vs. a dealer 10.

theking0075,
I'd recommend sitting down in a 2/4 limit game. Your potential to lose quickly is much less than in a NL game. Almost all 2/4 games are beginner friendly. If you want no limit, there's a lot of 1/2 $100 min/max around. I'd recommend that for NL.

The Alladin did have a nice room. The staff was very nice and the games were pretty well run.
I still favor the bellagio, but if you want in a game right away and are looking for lower limits the Alladin was pretty nice.

2/4 means the small blind is $1 and the big blind is $2. during the preflop and flop, the bets and raises are in increments of $2. on the turn and river, bets and raises are in increments of $4.
4/8 games is exactly like the 2/4 except everything is doubled.

How often or when do they increase the blinds? Is it soemthing like every 10 hands?

Ed, that would be tournament play. In a regular game it stays steady.

I was wondering this too, but was afraid to ask. :shy:
So what is 6:5 Blackjack?

So what is 6:5 Blackjack?
King - "regular" blackjack pays 3/2, meaning if you have $10 out there, you are paid $15 for the ace and face (or 10-card). In 6/5 blackjack, you only are paid $12.50 for your natural 21. It's another way the house is increasing its edge.

I've only seen that once before (on a Cruise Ship), tell me this is still rare in Vegas?

I wish I could. It's very widespread. On the Strip, pretty much every single and double deck game you find will be 6/5. Worse, I've heard there's a bikini pit at Rio where the beautiful dealers are scantily clad but blackjack only pays even money .
Downtown you can easily find 3/2 double deck games. Not as sure about off-strip.

I'm not a mathmatician, nor do I play one on TV... but I still think that ought to be 12 even at the 6:5 table.

I think you're right... and I make no claims to be a mathematician. I just do payroll! :goofy: I must have had the 12.50 "extra" in my head from having the green chip out there and getting back 37.50 on my (rare) blackjack.
