View Full Version : Underrated poker room on the Strip...

Don't laugh, but for my buck I really have to hand it to the Luxor poker room for low-limit hold'em.

If you're going to hit the tables for at least 15hrs in a trip, may I suggest checking them out?

1) Their poker room rate is excellent. If I don't get a full comp for my pit play, poker rate kicks in (5hrs a day req'd) and its generally a steal.

2) $6 in food comp for 5hrs play - often a friendly request will rack you up sooner if your face is recognized by mgmt.

3) Cashback - log 15hrs of play and you'll qualify for a 'freeroll tournament' held twice a week. (MAKE SURE YOU TELL THEM YOU WANT TO QUALIFY BEFORE YOU SIT DOWN IN A CASH GAME!) Instead of dealing the tourney, they chop the prize pool among those players present at the tournament start time - usually an $80 payout or thereabouts. Plus two cash drawings amongst all who qualified (and are playing in a cash game) for $150 a pop - so 1:25 shot at a nice little bonus (roughly)

4) SOFT and JUICY games - particularly their 2-4 limit and 4-8 limit if you shop around for the best table. I haven't played 1-2NL there but I'm sure its as plump as their limit games - since most casual players 'take a shot' in it.

5) Dealers & service are professional & friendly in my experience. Very few negative experiences there for me.

6) Rapid-hit hi-hand jackpot payouts (all 4 of a kinds pay and better pay at least $20 even if you use only one card, plus a small bad-beat jackpot ($1000 flat) with relatively liberal rules to hit.)

7) Juicy tournaments - particularly if you're good at the strategy required to be effective in 'slider' types of tourneys. My 'make the cash' record on their daily events is over 28% - and highly profitable. Plus, you can often count your tournament play hours towards your freeroll qualification if the cardroom manager isn't paying too close attention.

Drawback - their rake is a bit steep (max $4) - but if you qualify for the tournament, its more than compensated - you're basically being paid to play. Combine this generosity with sensible low-limit play (particularly slightly TIGHTER play given the higher rake) and you're going to be a winner.

Plus you're close to the Mandalay Bay where I find their 4-8 with a kill to also be a juicy game - rich cats or wanna be rich cats floating around low-limit hold'em games where the money doesn't seem to matter. I've cashed out $600 on a $200 buy-in several times here.

Just my two cents worth since there are lots of low-limit hold'em players looking for a good deal. I generally play a bit higher myself, but on my trips I log my minimum time at the Luxor and move on to greener pastures - and never go wrong.

Aces to you,

I wish Luxor's poker room was a little quieter, and I wish the dealers were a little better, but the games are soft. I've played a lot in their $50 buy-in $1-$1-$2 no-limit game (the only three-blind game I've played) and it is pretty soft. Of course, you have to be patient and keep your eyes open for the occasional good player.
