Upgrade and Update

I've done the biggest part of the upgrade. Now we need to do housekeeping.

Everyone please check your profile and make sure that your signatures and avatars are working and that all your data is correct.

I've got a nasty cold or something, but I'll try to be online as much as I can over the rest of the week to correct problems as they arise.

I've checked my profile but I need to get use to the navigation of this type of site.

My question is how come I can not post to some threads. They say they are locked. Is this the tweaking you are talking about?

I realize with time comes change but I really liked the other site (easier to navigate). Eventually I will get use to this.

This change is nice!

Folks will want to check out their profiles and may want to consider enabling PMs (Private Messages) and things like that. Otherwise they may not be recognized if e-mail notification, etc. is not turned on.

Overall, I love the new site! Getting e-mails on threads is a great option if you're looking for an answer to something and can't always get the time to check back.

This is great. So far the only problems I've had are trying to get my Signature and Avatar to show. When I select update signature it says IMG and HTML are off. When I select update avatar, I can't get the button to click off so I can load my photo. Probably just doing something wrong. But I did get my photo to load for the profile. I'm figuring it's something you need to change.

If anyone else got the signature and avatar to work, let us know your secret.

Stock avatar photos appear to be gone. If you have your own avatar hosted somewhere on the web, it should still be there. Before, the avatar pictures were 48x48, kinda small. They can now, apparently, be up to 100x100, which means we can see what you look like (for the most part, this is a good thing) but 64x64 is a better size.

Nothing other than plain text will show up in your signature line, until/unless sig line html/ubb code is turned on - which just happened...!

If you want to reply to a locked topic, email the forum moderator(s), they can unlock it for you. Nobody's been naughty, they just came over that way.

Still don't have a quick fix for the locked threads, but I second Al's idea. Email the mods or send a private message and we'll get them open right away.

I'm working on a lot of things right now and yes, Adrian, a new look is going to be one of them. :) Just right now I am focused on making sure things are actually working.

Hmmm...Last night I tried uploading an avatar I found on the web, but got a message saying that I couldn't exceed 80x80. Ended up going with my current Dirty Vegas avatar, which I kinda like.

PS: Yep, just found this on my Edit Avatar page: "The maximum size of your custom image is 80 by 80 pixels or 19.5 KB (whichever is smaller)."

I got an error message when I uploaded a new avatar photo, but it works fine--not sure why I got the error, but there are so many other things going on here, I'm not gonna worry about it. I feel like a kid in a candy store or at an amusement park--my eyes just don't know where to go next!!

To get smilies:
Click on User CP, click on 'Edit Options', scroll to the bottom, where it says 'Basic Editor' click and select Standard, then click on Save Changes at the bottom.

That will give you a more feature-filled box to type your messages in.

Doc, not sure about everyone else who's having problems with this but as for myself I am going to User CP, and selecting Edit Avatar but I don't have the choice of Use Custom Avatar. The only button I have to choose from says "Do not use an avatar" and it's already selected, and when you click on it, nothing happens.

I tried to upload a picture of Big Elvis and me at the BC from my pictures, but it is too big ...and being puter illiterate I don't know how to make it smaller to use as an avatar. It was also posted in the pics of sin forum way back when...I could e-mail it to someone who could post it for me ?????

What 'Use Custom Avatar' option ???

Here is what I see after clicking User CP & 'Edit Avatar' ...

Try going to User CP - Edit Options and making sure "show avatars" is checked there (about halfway down, 'Visible Post Elements' - heck, check'em all). It might not let you set up an avatar if you aren't going to be viewing them anyway.

I've duplicated the problem with a different ('higher quality' ;) ) login. It came over with it's avatar, but as soon as I checked "use no avatar" I wound up in blackjack's world.

Sorta seems like the board tolerates custom avatars if you brought one over, but doesn't really make it possible to set one up from scratch. A board customization setting?

George, that's what I'm getting too. It's as though avatars are not really enabled on the board, but the import process enabled it for some users.

Know how the old site had the view todays active topics button. You could look back at all the recent post for like the last 2 days? Do we have that now? If so where is it. I know we have the New Post button at the top of the page but it just shows you the new post since your last visit.

Yeah, as a heavy user of the old "recent posts" thing, I'm pretty lukewarm about the "new topics" view myself. I believe if you log out and log back on it should clear the cookies, which resets the posts you have/have not seen. Shouldn't be a matter of belief, but I'm too lazy to test the theory at the moment.

Can't seem to get an image in my signature. Images are turned on in my edit options and when I it turns into a link. I'm able to do it without any problem on another vbulletin board. Any ideas?

I am glad this new board supports us old folks driving antique busses. It is a Pentium, model I.

I even now have this image on a photobucket account. I took all day. The question is why "pixel vs. bytes" don't add up too well. Is my original too crisp? How do I crop River Rick or Vegas Vic on photobucket, or do I have the technology somewhere in my Win95?

You probably have Paint in Programs - Accessories, which will work in a pinch.

You can crop by clicking on the rectangle in that toolbar on the left, then clicking and dragging over the part of the image you want to keep. Edit- Copy will copy the part you've drawn the rectangle around, then go to File - New, then Edit - Paste and that part will be it's own image. Choose File - Save As and change the type to JPG and you should be set.

Resize the image by clicking on Image - Stretch/Skew. Put the same number in both boxes so you shrink width and height by the same amount. Do File - Save As again, and change type to JPG again.
