I'm thinking of a job change, but I'm not certain what it is that I'd like to do...
This prompted me to throw out the question, if you could have any job in Las Vegas, what would it be?

This is a great question. I am kind of stuck between two things.
1) I have always wanted to be a bartender so I would want to be that but at a nice mellow place that had a really good vibe.
2) A dancer in a big headliner show. Of course due to two bad dancing injuries- this could probably never happen. But I had taken dance for so long, I had always wanted to do it professionally.

A stressful job to say the least, but I'd love to be one of Vegas' superhosts that cater exclusively to the 200-something "whales" that exist in the world.
If that doesn't work out, I'd love to own a casino ;) .

I would love to be a promotion planner for slot clubs.

I assume this question is directed to what sort of Vegas-specific job would you want (since Vegas is a big city and most of us could probably do our "regular" jobs there) I've mentioned before that I'm not good with customer service--I'm kind of a misanthrope. I love logistics and data management, so I wouldn't mind doing something behind the scenes like scheduling, maybe setting up reservations systems? I don't know the hospitality or gaming industry at ALL, but I imagine there are lots of anal organizational things I could do & enjoy but I just don't know what the job titles or descriptions are. I know that clerk, waitress and dealer are OUT for me--too much contact with the public  Hubby could be a slot mechanic though, or maintenance for arcades--he takes his pinball machines apart & puts them back together all the time....
For a true fantasy job, I wouldn't mind being the executive chef of a nice restaurant--more testing the recipes & setting the menu and less daily cooking type job, though graemlins/beerchug.gif

Having worked at the casino's in many different areas, I find the best place to meet famous people is in the hotel VIP services, and the best place to meet whales is in the casino VIP services. But if you want general exposure to all sorts of people in every tax bracket, and social standing the best place to be is advertising/marketing.
The big $$ is in cocktail service. and the long hours with little $$ is chef. (Unless exec. chef)
The other decent job for exposure is limo driver, although its not the really big $$ you can make a living doing it.
In the casino's, there is a lot of politics, and unless you are of the right ethnic background, your chances of getting hired are slim, then if you do get hired, chances of upward mobility are tough.
Hoya is right that this is a huge city and anyone with a skill of any type or level will find employment, it is just a matter of how much butt kissing you want to do, and how well you play the politics game.

Although Vegas is my favorite vacation destination, I can't imagine myself ever living there. But if I had the chance to be in a show there, I would jump at the chance to go. Acting is my dream, my heart, and soul. I think getting cast in a show there would be the only way I would live there. For someone that has been working in the service industry since I was 15, I don't think I would want to wait tables in Vegas. (Although it would be great money I'm sure)
I think some sort of casino executive would be an interesting job as well, but I'm not sure it's for me.

i would like to be the inventor of a new, hot, table game, getting the royalties on every hand dealt. then i would use the money to take control of the mandalay group.
then, i would go undercover as a mystery shopper in my own casinos and restaurants, to make sure customer service was up to snuff, and that those who went out of their way for great customer service were rewarded appropriately!

I figured I'd open it up to anything, it doesn't have to be Vegas specific...
When I first moved, I interviewed for a VIP services representative position. I really wanted the job, but they went with another candidate, with hotel/casino experience. I don't blame them...I'd want someone with experience working with highrollers, as well.
---
I'd think a being a Madam would be good.
My dream job, would be similar to what kitson mentioned. I'd love to be a mystery shopper. Eat at restaurants, stay at hotels and then get paid to give my opinion.
I'd also like to work for the LVCVA to promote and market Las Vegas.
I just need to find the path to get me there.

Great question, makes you dream a little.
I would say a casino detective or run my own service where you track the casino cheats. Kind of like a 007 agent. LOL graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

I think it would be fun to be a Tour Director...
where once a month I take a group of folks on a Nevada tour for about a week or ten days. A few days in Vegas... Reno... Lake Tahoe... Laughlin... etc. Spend a day on a ranch, House boat on Lake Mead, etc.
Something that would pay great, and I'd get to stay and eat for free!
I could do that once a month or so. This way, I wouldn't necessarily have to live in Vegas, but I'd get to visit very frequently and keep up on local happenings!

In fantasy, I'd have to go with professional Poker Player. High profile & high stakes where I could play tournaments for a living & sit in on some 40/80 at Bellagio for practice  .
In reality, a job with the Las Vegas Sports Consultants would be the bomb. This is the place that has ALL the info on every sport and they set the lines daily for most of the books.
Always wanted to be a high roller host...
Other than that, I'd love to be a professional player!! Yeah right...

My perfect Vegas job is to be so filthy stinking rich I wouldn't need a job...or to be married to a woman so rich that I wouldn't need a job. :D
Or 2) To be the photographer that photographs all the girls (ahem...young women) for the porn slapper cards.
or 3) To invent a new kind of alcohol and market it to all the casinos, bars, and nightclubs in Vegas.
Or 4) What else..... .....Be the sole photographic "staff" for the new HOOTERS casino.

Either be an entertainer on the strip, or a blackjack (only) dealer. I love playing the game and talking to different people. I think it would be a cool job.

Well, dealing blackjack is cool...but I don't think it's the perfect Vegas job. I guess if I had my choice, I'd train the white tigers at the Mirage. I heard that they had an opening...:D

#1 I'd like to be Sam Rothstein; if unavailable...
#2....my own outcall doctor sevice to the VIPs where a quick call would get the patient a visit to their room from a quality MD who would provide everything from wound care to STD prevention to "rehydration services"...cash up front, then anything extra in negotiable
#3....Mayor of Pahrump

I got a couple of choices...
1. Restaurant & entertainment critic for Las Vegas Life Magazine or Player Magazine or some other publication.
2. Blackjack player. This would be a promotion from my current position of blackjack loser.
3. I don't know why, but as a former projectionist, I always thought it would be cool to be the guy who runs the projectors at the movie theater at the Showcase Mall. Seems like it would be a more fun gig than your local multiplex.
I'd like to invent my own position of "porn-slapper slapper". But there might be a little problem with that since assault's kinda against the law a little.

I write software and I would really like to supply solutions to the gaming industry, so some kind of job where I could learn the industry enough to come up with a reasonable solution, that would be the ideal.
Or... let me design a casino. I have all my sketches ready!
I'd like to be in-house counsel for a casino I like. I think working at the Trashy Castle would be a royal hoot...imagine how many times their in-house has to deal with Children and Families on any given day? Additionally, there are probably some really great liability issues with the Thunder from Down Under fall out....drunks hurting themselves, drunks hurting one another, drunks sexually harrassing non-drunks who get offended and complain that they need to be compensated by the hotel for allowing such rude and insolent behavior....my list can go on and on......ah the dreams....

That job might have been enough of a kick to keep me in law, although I have to say I prefer being a Nurse! In-house Nurse at a casino, that sounds like a job.
Now sin, I would have pictured you for stripper or head porn slapper....

If that job is not available, how about Mikey's biographer.

1) Quality control officer at the Bunny Ranch.
2) Costume adjuster at Skintight or any other topless show (the wedgies alone should keep me in business for years).
3) Lead dancer auditioner at Olympic Gardens.
Pattern?! What pattern?
