What is considered acceptable shoes to wear to a club? I have heard that some casinos can be very strict. I hate wearing my expensive shoes to clubs since they get stepped on and people spill stuff on them. Any suggestions?

Most every club I know of allows no tennis shoes or sandals for men. You can always call, or just buy an inexpensive pair of shoes for the club.

Look on Ebay for 'Born Shoes', retail these shoes are usually a $100 for mens and $60 for womens styles. You can get them much much cheaper on Ebay. Also Dillards and Nordstroms some time have sales on this brand.
'Born' are comfortable enough to walk the strip on and are proper attire for the clubs. I recently bought a pair of mens 12s for $50 on sale. Maybe the best value of anything I've ever purchased in my life.

A good pair of Doc Martens (also available discounted--try www.sierratradingpost.com) (http://www.sierratradingpost.com)) will stand up to anything you can dish out and last for years. My pair got me across Europe when I was 20 and partied all night....Don't do that anymore, but I still have the shoes, 10 years and who knows how many miles later :D

Would a pair of brown Timberland oxfords work?

I went and bought a pair of dress shoes from a discount suit store (K&G Men's Warehouse). Got a nice pair of fancy looking shoes for like $20.
Doc Marten's will also work. I wore my pair to the ghostbar with no complaints from management.

I think every man should have a pair of plain black shoes. They will go anywhere and always look good.

When I lived in Belgium, I had a dedicated pair of "guindaille" shoes. I threw them away after 8 months because they were so disgusting. The Doc Martens held up much better because I could wipe them off more easily ;)
Many clubs won't allow gym/tennis shoes. In May when I was in Vegas we were going to goto studio 54, my friend and his wife, who were otherwise nicely dressed, were not let in b/c they had gym shoes on...
I don't get it. In a dark club when everyone is dancing, who cares if you are wering gym shoes, espically if you are dressed nice?
I would also agree about being worried about messing up nice dress shoes. I bought a cheap pair from payless once for this reason. However, I was only able to wear them about 3 times before they started to look like crap...

I guess I can understand why they won't allow regular looking gym shoes. They want to at least try and provide the appearence of a certain atmosphere. I have black gym shoes that alomost look like dress shoes. I have been able to get in some clubs this way.
If all else fails, check out the DressSport line from Rockport. Looks like a dress shoe, wears/feels like a gym shoe (very comforatble).
