View Full Version : Which bar for 35 yr olds?

Alright, I don't like to admit I'm getting older, but which club/bar would a 35 yr old feel comfortable in? (And this is a married couple!) I'd like to check out some of the club scene while we're there, but don't want to be surronded by 21 yr olds all night (hate to admit I can't keep up anymore ;) ) Of course, as the saying goes, that doesn't mean I'm dead though! graemlins/beerchug.gif graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

I would suggest the Brew Pub in the Monte Carlo as well as the Bar at Times Square at NYNY. Both seem to cater to the late 20's and early 30's crowd. Neither place is overly noisy although both do tend to get crowded in the evenings. Also, you may want to check out Red Square at MB which tends to be a little more trendy. Have a blast! graemlins/beerchug.gif
I am 35 and DH is 48, in addition to the ones mentioned aboved, we also like the Peppermill's Fireside Lounge across from the Stardust. We could never get into the Times Square bar at NY NY it was packed. Try the Big Apple bar instead. Very good live music.

Definitely the bar at Times Square...very fun atmosphere.
At 39, I'm feelin' that "I don't like to admit I'm getting older" thing, but I know I am, because every time I go someplace where there is live music or a DJ, I find myself thinking/saying "Why do they have to turn it up so loud?! Wouldn't it be much more enjoyable to be able to listen to the music AND talk to people?"
It's a sure sign. :)

Not necessarily Terry. Don't feel too bad....I'm 28, but have been echoing your sentiments for years now. It's a huge pet peeve when you go out with friends (especially if you haven't see them in a while), and can't even talk to them due to the music, and then hear that ringing in your ears the rest of the night!
I've never understood that!
I'm looking forward to staying at the MC..that brewpub sounds like it's right up my alley!

What about the Fontana Bar at Bellagio? I really don't consider it a club like Ra or Studio 54, but it's certainly a place to listen to some music and grab some pricey drinks...
Monte Carlo Brew Pub seems too industrial for me - I know it's just the interior and I've never been for anything other than lunch and some great beer.

Damm, that post got me thinking... Do I have to find a new place to party soon (turning 35 in a few months).. what if I like the other places?
anyway.. check out the voodoo at the top of the RIO. Great spot for a veiw of the strip. Great drinks.. diverse crowd of ages from 20's to 50's. I recommend the witch doctor... $25 but its a drink for 2 and kinda the house specialty.
also, kudos to the fireside lounge in the peppermill (across from the stardust.. sorta) .. a way cool spot to enjoy a drink.. and "suck in the vibe".

We had the same issue last fall. Where do a bunch of 35-45 year olds hang out and party where we don't feel like we belong in a nursing home? Not sure what nights you are there but one good suggestion is the House of Blues in Mandalay Bay. Last fall, they used to have Flashback Friday's on Friday night (80's music) and Disco night on Saturday. Although some youngsters hanging out, it was definitely an older crowd. Hope this helps.

This is why I love Vegas casino lounges. Fun places, but you can usually hold a conversation, and I don't feel like I should be chaperoning the people around me. In Chicago, it's the blues and jazz clubs, but in Vegas, I love the lounge. graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

We are in our 30's and really enjoyed the Voodoo Lounge on top of the Rio. A friend's brother was telling him we were all too old to go there. I must admit I was a little nervous to go there. It was a weeknight and was not TOO wild - just wild enough. The patrons were all ages and I do mean all ages.
They have great drinks and the view is amazing. Have fun!!

Glad to hear all the positives about VooDoo lounge. I was thinking that would be a place I'd like to check out. Good to hear it is all ages. We will be there Sun - Thur, so we won't hit any of the weekend traffic.
I'm surprised (pleasantly) about how many responses I got to this post. We've made a list of the recommendations and we'll bring it with us when we go.
dr_al - I think you said it best and I don't feel like I should be chaperoning the people around me Sometimes at these places I want to say "Does your mother know about this?!)
We'll let you know our favorites when we get back! graemlins/beerchug.gif Thanks!

Arrghhh...looks like some folks have one foot in the grave already! redface.gif
I'm just teasing, but I did find this thread a bit depressing. Who wants a place to sit and talk? You only feel old if you think you're old.
I know, I know, it's cliche, but true.
Case in point: I went to Vegas with some other guys my age (40) and as we all met to hit the town, the clothing said it all. Two of my buddies had on khakis and golf shirts with soft sole shoes. I had on a button down Kenneth Cole top with a trendy, but not loud, design, some black jeans and a pair of pseudo biker style boots. I wasn't doing the south beach look thing, but I wasn't dressing like I've given up on being exciting and in the know about the latest fashions.
Next year, I'm taking two of my nephews to Vegas for the first time. They're both in their early twenties. We've been partying here at home and they're amazed that I hang harder than they do. I can't wait to wear them out in Vegas. They remark that I don't act like I'm forty. I take that as a compliment.
So, for me, in a roundabout way of answering your question, Sharon, I vote for anywhere that isn't blatently young (Babys) is a great place to go depending on what you're looking for.
I choose my bars not by age, but by music. I'm a dance/rap/top 40 kinda guy. (As opposed to my wife, who likes 80s dance music. As my nephew puts it, she likes the "old people bars")
I always steer people to Voodoo Lounge simply because, if you get there early, they've got a band playing 70s and 80's dance music, the as the night goes on, they start playing stuff like you'd hear on MTV out on the deck. You can switch vibes just by stepping outside. Great view, open air and a great mix of ages. graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
But like I say, I go more by music being played than by what age hangs out there. graemlins/cheers.gif

Hey farking - I'm NOT old! ;) :D
However, I don't look quite as good in "club clothes" as I did when I was 25! Nothing worse than hanging with a bunch of toned 20 somethings when you're not quite THAT toned anymore! :( And I know when NOT to wear certain styles. Nothing worse than someone in an outfit made for kids 20 years their junior! graemlins/eek5.gif
No, my point was, I knew I didn't want to hit Bikinis or Baby's. I was looking for something where I would feel more comfortable and in "my" element! And not have to be compared in my husband's mind to those "tiny" little things wearing the "tiny" little outfits. graemlins/goofy.gif

I hear ya, Sharon. LOL graemlins/hehehmn.gif smile.gif
My wife is the same way. I stay pretty much in shape, but my wife is feeling the ravages of age a bit more than I, although no one ever guesses our age.
I know how you feel. I was in South Beach for a 4 day bachelor party and was hanging out with one of the local college football team players at the pool. I wanted to smack each and every one of them cause I keep my tire off with exercise and diet, while those young turks are eating pizza and throwing down beer like someone was going to take it away from them.
I could just imagine my wife going "why don't you look like that!?
