How much is a beer generally along the Strip? It's not sold in pints is it? Just large or small??

graemlins/cheers.gif

Will have to visit an Irish bar while we are there so we can have a nice pint of bitter (heavy/dark beer). I'd imagine that is very expensive though as it's imported?

Like a Caffreys for example. Does anyone know what I am talking about btw?!!

Any good Irish pubs with a good down to earth fun atmosphere? Dont like it when they are too 'glitzy' really. An Irish bar should be dark, with beer barrels for tables and candles for light. With a brilliant band and a funny barman etc etc. anywhere like this?? graemlins/goofy.gif

You're going to fly all that way to go to an Irish bar?! tongue.gif ;) Reminds me of people that fly out from the east coast and stay at NYNY or Ceasar's. graemlins/laughing.gif Just teasing, of course...I guess there's something to be said for comfort.

I believe NYNY is going to open a new Irish Pub called the Nine Fishermen, or something like that... I seem to recall that they are taking pieces of an actual pub and bringing it over.

Why not dive into Americana and try some of the local micro brews? Main Street Station downtown, the Monte Carlo, or try Gordon Biersch on Paradise Rd.

:D :D

HI!!
Ali Terry is right.Drop the ale and bitter. You get plenty of that home.Drink plenty and drink cheap.Go to slots a fun and slosh down some 1usd
american beers,When you are finished with that go
the casino next door and drink some potent 1usd frozen margaritas.save the heavy beer for the u.k.

Aye, what Larry said. We found that the further north along the strip you head, the cheaper it gets, there are some bargain sore heads to be had graemlins/beerchug.gif

I know it must sound crazy but visiting Irish bars has become a habit of everywhere we go. Started by accident really but the atmosphere is usually so good we tend to always go in them now - wherever we are !!!

Will definately try other things though, don't worry about that. Can't go all that way to do just what we do at home.

NO WAY !

Always think its funny when visiting pubs in the UK to hear the imported beers as Henekin, Lowenbrow, Becks and Budweiser.

Frank III I am laughing at your comment because I agree, to hear bud as an import makes me laugh also. But I have to say Beck's and Heineken are imports here too LOL That being said, to answer the Original Poster, Green Valley Ranch has an Irish Pub as does, The Rio and I believe the Orleans and Palace Station have them also. I believe you will be able to get Caffrey's but I am not positive. Nine Fine Irishmen sounds like it will be great. The Tilted Kilt at the Rio looks alittle too commercial in my opinion. Fado at GVR is a chain but the inside of the pub is great reminded me of an Irish Pub in Boston, maybe the Black Rose or the Shamrock. graemlins/beerchug.gif

Last time we were at Orleans, the irish pub there had really good musicians playing--very fun! We were gambling & didn't buy any drinks in the pub so I can't tell you the selection (I usually get cider if it's on tap, anyway) Enjoy!!

Everything seems to be brewed everywhere. My boyfriend works opposite a Carlsburg factory in Northampton and I thought that was Danish !! LOL

The best advert here is for Dolmio pasta sauce, the advert is all really Italian - a family sitting at the dinner table eating spaghetti, etc etc, then in tiny letters at the end it says 'made in UK'.

Its about as Italian as me! lol

I didnt know Bud was brewed here though - learn something new every day eh. (I have to admit I dont like Bud though - sorry guys !!) graemlins/beerchug.gif

LV Terry is correct. NYNY just opened their Irish Pub.."Nine Fine Irishmen". It is suppose to be pretty sweet...open 24/7. The Micro Brew @ Monte Carlo is a definate must. They have some great beer..you can get a sampler and then order the flavor you like and it comes in it's own tube with a tap and they sit it right infront of you. Very Cool.....

That sounds interesting Korked. How much is that??

In fact how much is a beer in general along the strip? Here we pay about £2 for a pint ($3.30).

HI!!
Carlsberg is a Danish beer but is brewed on license all over the world. The same as Tuborg.Danish but brewed on licese. It is cheaper to brew on license then to ship all over the world. They make more money that way and after all
that is what they are most interrested in(the money)
Tommorow i am going to legoland in Denmark.I know there is a legoland in the u.k. and the u.s.
but it is as danish as h.c.anderson.In fact the name Lego is a combination af 2 danish words
LEg(play)and GOdt(good) and there you have lego.
lego is produced other places but it is,again, cheaper to produce on licence then to ship all over and profit has no nationality

I don't think I buy much beer in Vegas--just get it while gambling. I know that Casino Royale usually has bottles of Becks (12 oz) for $1 (unless they ended that promotion) and a couple other casinos (Slots of Fun and/or Westward Ho) had Corona for $1 (bottles) but for a pint in a bar (yep, you can get pints at many bars here :D ) you'll probably pay about what you pay in the UK. Of course, that depends on what you order and what bar you're at, too....

Ali, if it's about the beer, I second the recommendations for the local brewpubs, as far as being close to what you'd get at home, and they haven't spent weeks on a dock or in a hold somewhere...

If it's about finding interesting people, well, the whole town seems to be one big cocktail party, you should do ok just about anywhere you go.

there is no set price for a pint of beer along the strip.. the same beer could be 2 different prices at different bars in the same casino... but they do try and get you drunk in vegas, and getting free drinks is one of the best parts of being in vegas. here's another suggestion.. take a walk behind bally's and hit ellis island.. it's a tiny casino.. brew pub.. where all the drinks are $1. and it has a great steak dinner for like $3.95. their beer is good.. but the place is a locals dive.. if that matters to you.

07-07-2003, 05:36 PM
HI!!
Never been there but since it is a local dive and has 1usd drinks i would like to try it.Those
free drinks get pretty expensive when given to gamblers. So ellis island it is.

Guess I must be going to those authentic Irish pubs because when I order a pint, I get a pint. Sometimes a half-yard--how much is that? 24 oz?

UKAli- not sure when you're headed to Vegas, but the Barbary Coast is offering all drinks at their bars for $1.00 in the month of July graemlins/beerchug.gif

So all drinks at Barbary Coast Bars are a $1.00...doesnt matter what you get? If so that is pretty sweet... graemlins/beerchug.gif graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

HoyaHeel

If the $1 drinks at Barbary Coast are the same as last year, it's a relatively small glass of whatever you order. Still a good deal, but it's not like you're going to get 24 oz of tequila or anything :D

KorkedBatz:

This was copied directly from an email newsletter I got last week (can't remember which one)

The Suncoast's June dollar-drink promotion has ended, but the Barbary Coast has picked up right where the Suncoast left off, offering all drinks for a buck at all its casino bars through the end of July. Call Barbary Coast at 702/737-7111 for more info.

I assume "all drinks" means ALL drinks; Heineken or PBR (my personal fave), Zhenka or Stoli....but there's only one way to find out! graemlins/cheers.gif

That info about the barbary coast is from the billhere newsletter. There are limitations on what you can get for $1 (I just can't remember what they are :D ) I just drank rum & diet coke last summer for the $1 special.....

Millions of people LOVE their Budweisers et al, which they're welcome to as far as I'm concerned, but be aware that the microbrew/homebrewers group will often refer to such as... how to put this politely... skunk piddle.

Thankfully there *are* breweries waking up to the fact that a growing number of the population like their beer with some flavor and character. Hops even (bitters)! Sierra Nevada is one of the better breweries putting their product out on a widespread basis. Their beer should be easy to find in Las Vegas. If you want adventuresome beer, I can recommend 2 East Coast breweries: Victory Brewing (from Downington, PA) and Dogfish Head (Lewes, Delaware). Also of note are Dominion Brewing (Dulles, VA) and Magic Hat (out of Burlington, Vermont, and mentioned in the Non-Vegas Chat thread "Vermont") I have no idea what beers might be available in Las Vegas, although assume Sierra Nevada would be the most likely candidate for success.

The only brewpub I have visited in Las Vegas is the one at Main Street Station. It was neither the best nor the worst beer I've had.

I liked the red beer at the Monte Carlo brew pub, and also the hefeweizen (but I LOVE wheat beers!!) Since I've visited in the summer the past couple times, the seasonal beers have been the wheats, not the stouts....

Call me crazy, but if they're offering PBR for $1, I'd wait until the "special" is off and you can get it for the regular price of $0.50 graemlins/beerchug.gif

Haven't you ever been traveling and start missing something you can have any time at home but can't at the vacation spot?

We got back to the US once and had to stop on the drive home to get a hamburger. I missed a good hamburger while I was away.

The Irish Pub in the Orleans offers $3.00 pints when the outside temp is 100 or higher.

In response to Coaster Kikky: I've never seen Sierra on tap anywhere in Vegas, but Bass, Newcastle, and Guinness are readily available, even Downtown.

On a side note, I tried Michelob Amber Bock from the little bar in front of 4 Queens since it was only $1.50. It was a horrible beer. Tasted like Michelob with brownish/green food coloring in it.

In researching for my upcoming trip, I ran across McMullan's Irish Pub (http://www.mcmullansirishpub.com) which says it's on Tropicana next to the Orleans. It has a Happy Hour special Mon. thru Fri. from 4 pm to 7 pm. $1 off all pints of beer and $1 off all well drinks. Also a good beer and food menu.

But having not actually been there yet, I can't outright vouch for the place. iBidUSA often has gift certificates up for auction for this place if you want to try it out for cheap. See my post under the "Las Vegas for the Frugal (not Cheap) smile.gif " section of this messageboard for links and more info.

Sign up for their mailing list and they sometimes mail you "email only" specials. I've gotten 2 in the 3 weeks since I've signed up.
