I'm going to see Duran Duran July 19th at Hard Rock's The Joint. Just curious to know what it's like, how big it is, etc? From the web cam's on the HRH web site it looks pretty small but those things can be deceiving.
Since the show is General Admission I'm trying to figure out how early I need to get there (it starts at 8pm) to get close up. Can I get in early? Is it open all day? I'm not staying there so I can't walk downstairs & go in.
I know you're probably thinking, why all this over Duran Duran? This is a band that I have loved for over 20 years and I'm finally getting to see them (all 5 originals) for the first time. I'm so excited that I'm flying from the east coast just to see them (and I hate to fly!!!!!!!!!!).
Anyway, I'm just trying to find out all info I can about the Joint so that I can develop my "game" plan for that evening.
Thanks in advance! smile.gif
I'm going to see Duran Duran as well. I saw them on the last tour at the Joint too. It's small for sure. I hate standing through a whole concert that is always over sold and waiting in line forever to get a cab after the show is a drag. Also, you have to arrive early and wait in line. That part sucks. But, the sound and lights are great. And besides! It's Duran Duran so it couldn't be bad at all!

Thanks for the info Saul. Guess what?? I actually am going to get to meet & hang out with the band. Yes, I forsaken my first born to pay for it but it'll be well worth it. It's the ultimate travel package that's offered on the DD official web site.
With the package, we actually get to go in the venue before everyone else. So I get to stake my claim right in front of John Taylor. I just hope that after they start letting people in that it's not a total mob seen with people trying to push & shove. I've never been to general admission show (always assigned seats). It looks like they have a bar in the Joint. Will it be impossible to get a drink and get your spot back?
No way! Did you spend the two grand on that package? That's VERY expensive for what you get.
Everytime I have been been the joint and found a good place to stand I have never considered moving for a drink or even the bathroom. It's just too hard. Almost no chance you will get back. They pack you in like sweaty cattle.

Yes, I know I'm a sucker for paying the two grand but I couldn't help it. I've only wanted to meet them for over 20 years now and this might be my only opp.
That's what i figured about the joint. I guess I won't drink anything that day so I won't have to go to the bathroom & lose my place. Yikes, sweaty? Should be an interesting experience. smile.gif

Naw, I don't think you are a sucker. That just seems like so much money to me. But, you get a room and a photo with the band, right?

Ok, we all have skeletons in our closets, so I'm gonna 'fess up and admit that I've seen Duran Duran in concert 5 times now...
Hey, back in High School, it was what all the chicks were listening to, so that was the hook. That, and all those cool videos back in the day when MTV actually played videos.
Anyhow, my dirty little secret is that I believe they were the Greatest Band Ever To Fill The Gap Between Led Zeppelin and Guns & Roses.
Should be a great concert! Wish I could be there.

We were there September 14 for The Who, we had had back row seats for 7 months. You essentially pay to stand in front of your fold up chair, the floor is fairly flat and I am short, so I had to stand on my toes to see, but the $1 million JBL sound system is awesome. Also, the patrons standing room only were kept from being against the back of our chairs. The doors didn't open until an hour before, and yes, there was a long cab line, but we didn't care. We were in the 25th row, but I doubt we were more than 60 feet from the stage. The front row is slam up against the stage. It seems The Joint seated approximately 1100, and maybe 200-300 people were standing in back or up in the balcony. In our opinion, it's the best venue anywhere because of the small size, which will surprise you. The Hard Rock Hotel site does have some pictures of The Joint empty.

Yes I do get a picture with the band and get to hang out with them at a 2 hour cocktail party the night before. We are supposed to get some free autographed stuff too. So it should be really exciting! smile.gif
I've loved the band since 82 when I first got cable and got my MTV. I literally watched it 24/7 just to see their videos (all of which I have taped about a 1000 times).
The Joint sounds like the perfect place. It's going to suck though if I need a drink or to the bathroom but at least it'll be intimate and I won't have to squint my eyes to see them like I have in past shows. smile.gif
