We are staying at the Tropicana in August and we are getting married in a chapel on the 31st. Do you think I should let the hotel know beforehand? I mean, do you think they'll upgrade us or something?

IMO, you should tell EVERYONE! smile.gif I'm getting married on Wednesday and I'm telling total strangers on the street, "I'm getting married in 2 days!" So far no free stuff, but never hurts. graemlins/laughing.gif
Seriously, tell people when you feel comfortable. Tell them at check-in. Say - "Do you have a nice room or an upgrade available? We're here to get married in your chapel and were hoping for a room that's extra special." Can't ever hurt to ask as long as you ask nicely.
Congrats!
Most definitely, we were staying a Luxor, mentioned we were there to get married so a nice view would be appreciated, got upgraded to a suite graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Congratulations Sonya!! Have a wonderful wedding and a great married life.
As far as telling a hotel that you are getting married - it won't hurt. But, I was once told this by my Host: There are basically 2 types of people trying to get special treatment or upgrades at a hotel. Those who are celebrating a wedding, birthday or anniversary AND those who 'SAY' they are celebrating a wedding, birthday or anniversary! Her point being is that unfortunately there are so many guests who say it is a special event that at times it is hard to know who is telling the truth.

LBinSTL - I guess that a few bad apples can ruin it for the rest of us, huh? That stinks.
I was just planning on saying at check-in "that we are getting married tomorrow and was wondering if any upgrades were available." I hope they believe me!! I hate to sound like I'm asking for something for nothing, but I guess I am!
Plus, we are not getting married at the hotel, so who knows. But I guess it won't hurt to mention it, huh?

Yes, Linda, give it a try! I agree that a few can spoil things for others. I have read more times than I can count on these and other Las Vegas discussion boards and newsgroups some one 'suggesting' to another poster that if they want an upgrade they should say it is a special occasion when it is not. In fact, when this ruse is suggested for trying for an upgrade, many times a poster will say something like "Go ahead and say it is a birthday, anniversary, wedding, etc as the desk clerks have no way of checking".
I would love for someone trying to get an upgrade for a birthday (when it is not) to report that the desk clerk asked them for their Driver's License so that they could check their birthdate!! That would be sweet...

Hey Linda
You should definately call the reservation desk and have them put it in their notes on the computer ahead of time. Then when you get there and are ready to check in, mention it again. We did not get married at the Tropicana, however we did stay there for the week of our wedding, and they upgraded up to a suite for no extra charge. The suite ended up costing us $45 weekdays and $59 weekends. The staff at the Trop were wonderful and very accomodating:) This will always be one of my favorite hotels in Vegas!

we got into town a day before our reservations at the excalibur so we stayed at the tropicana and we told then we were getting married that week and they upgraded us to a view room for fr )ee. (I carried my wedding dress in because i didnt want the bell people to lose it, i know they wouldnt but still)
then we transfer to excalibur for the week which was our hotel we had reservations again i carried my dress in (i had it in a black dress bag so my hubby couldnt see it lol) and when we checked in the girl asked what was in the bag and i told her and she upgraded us for the week to a jazzcui room for free. and they sent a bottle of wine up we don't drink.. but when our trip was over we had over 12 bottles of wine from friends and family.
when we were walking down stairs in our wedding stuff people in the casino was coming up to us clapping taking pictures even gave us cash... it was awsome.
at the venetian we did the boat ride there and bought two tickets and they gave us a private boat..we got a lot a lot of stuff for free that week

I guess carrying a big ole wedding dress let them know you weren't just making up a wedding to get stuff free :D graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
I always feel sorry for the brides carrying their wedding gowns on airplanes to their destination weddings--those things are HEAVY. But it's not like you're gonna let it out of your sight, right?? I bought mine at my mom's house and had to get it to mine--didn't want to bring it on the plane because of the weight, didn't want to have it shipped....My mother eventually drove it to me ;) Yes, I thanked her profusely!! And she get's nice mother's day presents :D

NON-VEGAS - smile.gif We just got back from our honeymoon in British Columbia and I have to tell you that this works. I've always had a hard time getting upgraded from reservations booked through a broker. I used HRN (http://www.travel2vegas.com/hotelres.html) to book our rooms and I got upgraded to a harbour view in Victoria, but I hit the jackpot in Vancouver. We were staying at the Marriott Pinnacle for Friday and Saturday night and we got upgraded to the top floor, end of the hall with windows around 2/3rds of the room. Amazing! Just for saying we were honeymooning.
