Going to Vegas in October. Still haven't decided where I'm going to stay. Want to stay on the strip, but am looking at other options also. I wanted to stay at the Venetian, but they don't have Satuday check-ins, and that's when I will be arriving. Anyway.....have any of you stayed in Rio or The Orleans? I haven't seen many reviews on these two.

Have you tried a rooom broker for a Saturday night checkin at Venetian? I know that both http://www.travel2vegas.com/hotelres.html and http://www.travel2vegas.com/hotelreservations.html the brokers I use, will allow a Saturday check-in.

As far as Rio and Orleans, I've stayed at both and enjoyed both. Rio has large rooms with floor to ceiling windows, couch, refrigerator, etc. I like the Masquerade Tower better than the Ipanema Tower.

Orleans rooms aren't as large, but they do have a sitting area with couch and table off to the side of the bedroom area.

I've got pictures of the rooms at http://www.travel2vegas.com/lvphoto.html if you're interested.

The gambling is better at Orleans, IMO, but you get "bevertainers" at Rio now. graemlins/ssst.gif

Have stayed at both...personal preferences is the Rio but the Orleans is nice too. Rooms at Orleans seemed a bit smaller but if the price is right.......

Like to gamble at both hotels and sometimes we get lucky in both!

Have fun

Hi,

We just got back from a stay at the Rio and enjoyed it. The slots seemed to be tight and the table limits were high so if that is something that concerns you keep it in mind.

The "Scene" at the Rio was fun. There are a lot of pretty people walking around and it is even more interesting when those people get dressed to go to the clubs there. The Bevertainers were not too bad. Lets just say that at least us women have something to look at now! graemlins/ylinlove.gif

If you do stay in the Rio make sure to try the VooDoo lounge. It was very fun and the view of the strip is amazing.

never stayed at the rio,but did stay at the orleans. really liked the orleans, reasonable and comfortable rooms. i hear the rooms at the rio are much better but of course more expensive. great table limits at the orleans, $3 blackjack, double deck for $5 minimums at all times even on weekends. i do not believe the minimums are like that at the rio. great coffee shop at the orleans, great midnight specials, 4 really good restaurants, prime rib loft, a mexican place, sazio(italian) and the canal street grill. one mile from the strip, with a shuttle to the barbary. we rent a car. the only negative is if you like to walk to other casinos the orleans is not for you. give it a try.

Just came back from a great stay at Rio. From check-in to check-out the hotel staff was great. We arrived and checked-in at 11:45 am, but the rooms were not ready. They gave us our room charge so we could eat lunch and we went to the Carnival Buffet (overrated, but good).

The hotel was sold out, and we were assigned a room in Ipanema Tower when we got there, but requested an upgrade anyway (we had previously e-mailed a request for Masquerade Tower). The desk clerk put in the request and said when we got back from lunch the room would be ready. We arrived back at the desk at 2:30 and the clerk we dealt with in the morning called me over (we are definitely "low rollers" so I was surprised she even remembered us). She checked the system and saw we were still assigned Ipanema Tower, so she made an adjustment and got us on the 15th floor of Masquerade Tower. The room was great, not a suite but very large. The view was mainly the pool and Ipanema Tower, but walking up to the window you could easilly see the strip and downtown. A cool note- some of the strip hotels reflect off the Ipanema tower in the afternoon, so we got the coolest view when we changed after going to the pool.

With the exception of the Fairfield people (and the timeshare people in Venetian, Aladdin and the IP were much worse), the experience was great. The shuttle came more frequently then promised, and the drivers were helpful. The only thing that stunk was the walk through Harrah's every time to get back to Rio.

The whole atmosphere at Rio was fun and the hotel was mobbed on Thursday and Friday Nights (we went downtown Thursday and returned at 1:30 am to find the casino packed).

Rio was great and we would highly recommend it. If it was on the strip I could guarantee we would stay there when we return to Vegas.

rio has nice big rooms, but i get annoyed by the atmosphere of the place. they have these shows that go on in the casino area, and while they're kinda cool and all, they crowd the casino and the music is just irritating. voodoo lounge has a great view however. but i'd pass on bikini and club rio.

Without a car,and relying on the CAT and/or shuttles would you say access to the Orleans was the same as access to Rio, Gold Coast or the Palms?

I think its a bit further than the Rio. A hike either way especially when its 105!

The Orleans is a little further but that only matters if you are walking and why do that? The Gold Coast/Rio combo is a little more convenient as you can use either casino's shuttles to get to them both (they are just across the street from each other). But the Orleans can be reached from both the Barbary Coast and the Gold Coast by shuttle. Both the Gold Coast (Flamingo Rd.) and the Orleans (Tropicana Ave.) have bus stops in front. ;)
