I was reading a trip report that mentioned the liquor store at the Gold Coast, and it mentioned that a 1.75 litre bottle of booze, which I think is an equivalent to 60oz bottle in U.S. measurements was $7.00 !!. That's unheard of by Canadian standards. I always try to buy my booze at the duty free shop at the ambassador bridge going to Detroit metro airport before getting to Vegas and it's about $14.00 for only a forty ounce bottle. Then with security tightened up I'm always afraid of them dumping it out of my carry on bag. I was wondering if anyone knows if the Orleans hotel has a liqour store and if they do are the prices comparable to the Gold Coast, because if so,i'm blowing off the duty free store and once I check into my hotel(The Luxor), I'm getting a cab to the Orleans to buy my vacation booze. The last time I was in Vegas on the strip, the gift shop/liquor stores were really expensive. Any help would be great!
Yes, the Orleans has a liquor store. Cannot vouch for hard liquor prices, but beer well-priced for premium stuff like Sierra Nevada. We stay at the Orleans and shop there each trip for room refreshments.
It is located very deep into the casino if you are walking from the main entrance. An empty piece of wheeled luggage might be helpful if you are _really_ stocking up
It is closer to the buffet and the escalators to the movie theaters than it is to the main entrance; and is at the turn to the hallway to the poker room. Otherwise you need to walk past slot machines, most of their sit-down restaurants and the sports book to get there.
Good luck.

The Liqour store at the orleans is the cheapest liqour i have ever seen next to duty free shops in mexico , they are cheaper than US Airport duty free shops, I bought a 1/5 of bacardi (750ml for like 6.50) a 750 ml of SKYY was like 12 bucks I think,

I believe the Orleans store is a branch of a local establishment and is not as much a "company store" as so many of the other casino's "liquor stores". It is also the only one I've been in that actaully feels like a liquor store - not a gift shop that sells some booze.
If you have a car there are several stores within the area that you can go to if you are of such a mind.
We've hit one on the north end of the strip across the street from the Stardust and I know there is another a block east of the strip on Flamingo behind the Barbury Coast.

How about a reasonably priced one in the downtown area for someone with no wheels? graemlins/beerchug.gif

the liqour downtown stores are a little more expensive than a regualr liqour store, I bought 750ml of malibu and and it was like 18 dollars , normally its about 13.

Yep, we have state run liquor stores here, and the state just north of the border too....I remember going CRAZY at a liquor store in New Hampshire once--I was 22, I was on a road trip with my mom, and we were living in Utah at the time. We both stocked up--the prices (plus no sales tax!!) and the variety--it was awesome!

I can relate, Hoya...
Every time we go on a cruise, I hit up the duty free shops down in the Caribbean. Captain Morgan is only $5 a bottle down in St Martin. Stoli Vanilla--$6. Hell, I even got a four-pack of Johnny Walker scotch (Black, Gold, Green & Blue) for only $70!!! (The Blue by itself is usually anywhere from $180-$220 here in the states graemlins/eek5.gif )
Supposedly you're only allowed 4 bottles per person. I came back with 18. And two boxes of Cuban cigars.
As far as Vegas goes, we only keep beer, water, and Gatorade in the room. Liquor is free in the casinos, and we never feel the need to stock up... graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

It's 4 duty-free--you can bring back what you want, you just have to pay....Or, you're SUPPOSED to pay tongue.gif On a family trip a few years back, we were in Italy. There were about 8 of us, so that's 32 bottles of wine, right? Only a couple of us actually wanted wine, so we made out great--just used everyone else's allowances :D

New milestone here in New York State...this past Sunday was the first in history that NY Liquor stores could be open and sell liquor. Only catch was that they now have to close some other day. Still can't buy beer in NYS before 12 noon in Sunday.
One of the funniest parts of traveling across this country is trying to figure out where and when you can buy liquor and beer in each state.

I remember those plastic sheets covering the beer coolers on Sundays when I was growing up in CT smile.gif And Virginia has the Sunday noon rule too--I can never remember if we do here in NC or not....It really is funny trying to figure out where you can buy beer, wine & liquor!! Especially once you get to the COUNTY levels--for example, our county isn't dry, BUT you cannot buy liquor by the glass...Though the council is debating this again....

This is hillarious! There are restrictions on when you can buy alchohol? What a crack up!

Yep--thank them Puritans for the "Blue Laws" in New England--until the 80s, most stores, etc., weren't permitted to even be OPEN on Sunday, much less sell alcohol!!

I live in a dry county in Illinois. Not really a problem though as acoupla surrounding counties are wet. Course they are closed on Sundays but if you are a good churchgoer then you belong to the Legion, VFW, Moose, Elks. bears or whatever who serve 'til you pass out or run out of money-whichever comes first. They keep raiding them for illegal gambling and underage drinking but of course never catch much as the fix is in. Ah, the joys of living in a God fearing community. graemlins/beerchug.gif graemlins/cheers.gif
Andsen,
I don't know we had dry counties in Illinois. Are you downstate somewhere?

I live in Edwards county in southeastern Illinois about 30 miles from the Indiana line. I lived in the Chicagoland area for some 30 years with all the illegal crap up there but nothing like the "church fearing" idiots down here. I was raised in this area and used to get my booze/beer at a bootlegger as a teenager 'cause the liquor stores in the surrounding counties wouldn't sell us for fear of losing their license. Every so often the local business people try to vote in a change but the bible thumpers have a fit and condemn all us honest folk to hell while they sneak around doing their thing. graemlins/hehehmn.gif
