View Full Version : San Remo?
Is this a good place to stay? Better than New Frontier or are the Atrium Suites in New Frontier better?
?thanks

I have never stayed there yet but it has been stated that the rooms are basic but clean. I think the location is fairly good and the rates are often tempting. Restaurant is ok.
I prefer that area or mid strip but never oblivious to a good deal! Sorry I couldn't be more of a help. I wouldn't worry about staying there if that was what you needed to know.

I was originally going to stay at San Remo, when I learned that the Trop had rooms for 12.00 more a night, plus they have a pool bar, pool black jack table, and they are located right on the strip. Darci

Darci ~ actually they are right next door to each other and at the far south end of the strip, but you will be MUCH happier at the Trop. We stayed at the SR (on our 1st trip to LV) about 10 yrs ago so it's been a while. The rooms were very basic and at that time and I wouldn't even say they were clean. Pretty marginal all around. About the only good thing i recall was they had some low limit tables if you're looking for that but who knows, they may have changed that too. The Trop is an older but pretty cool property (IMO) and still one of the best pools in town. Have a great time! graemlins/beerchug.gif

We stayed at San Remo last weekend. It was terrible! If I were rating them, the result would be poor. The room was terrible (heater/ac rattled constantly, the TV was blurry and almost unwatchable, the decor was run down and shabby, the linens were very cheap, the mattess was old, there were stains and damage to the carpet and furniture, etc.), the staff was surly both before (on the phone) and during our visit (they even locked us out of our room and didn't even apologize), the elevators broke down several times, etc. I'd never stay there again.

I agree. We stayed at the San Remo a couple of years ago. We thought the loaction wasn't bad. The room and staff were as castlecatc says and the food was not that great either. There are plenty of deals on offer try another hotel.

Might be a catch-22 here, but it sounds like your justified in complaining to the management. The reason I say catch-22 is they might offer a deep discount or even a free stay, which does not do any good if you don't want to stay there again.

Maybe you could write a note asking for (or perhaps demanding) a refund. You might also contact the credit card company you charged your bill on. If it was AMEX, you might even get them involved.
My two cents.

I stayed in one of the Atrium Suites at the New Frontier in 1991. At the time, they were pretty nice rooms...On par with what you'd get at an Embassy Suites. Even the layout was similar to Embassy Suites; front room with pull-out couch, tv and sitting area, and a back bedroom with bathroom. This was 12 years ago, so I can only hope that they've renovated the rooms since then ;)

I used to stay at the Atrium suites at the New Frontier. Now I always stay at the San Remo. I get RFB whenever I go, with only modest gambling. In fact the amount of money I gamble might get me a breakfast at Caesar's. On many of my trips I have been upgraded to a jacuzzi suite or an International suite. Suites are excellent, standard rooms are average. The staff is always very friendly and accommodating.
If you are a non-smoker, you may be bothered by the smoke odor. I am a smoker and hardly notice it.
The "Showgirls of Magic" is a great show and you can get free tickets from a slot host if you do a moderate amount of gambling.

Hi Michael,
We tried to complain when we were there, but no one cared and the manager wasn't "available." I did send in the comment card and asked for a response. We'll see if I actually hear anything. You're right though, a free return trip wouldn't be much of a bonus smile.gif

No matter who you speak to, make you case using as much detail as possible (who, what, where, when, why, how, how much, etc). Be polite and professional. Let us know the outcome.

San Remo is not great, but id stay there over frontier. Low table limits , and your just minutes away from NYNY Exaclibur MGM and Trop , if you can get a rate of under 70 on a weekend , I would do it, but you can almost always stay at the imperial palace for the same rate , which has probally has a tad bit better rooms and a way better location and better atmposhere.

I was in Las Vegas this past weekend and had a great time. I went to 2 friends and we stayed in a Hollywood Suite at the MGM Grand. Coming home on Sunday we were taking the red eye flight (left 12:40 am Monday morning) and did not want to be without a room all day, so for $45.00 (tax included) we booked a room at the San Remo for Sunday night.
To make a long story short, I will never stay there again! We were first greeted by a slow, ragged looking elevator with graffiti in it. When we walked in the room we were greeted by bugs, it looked like some kind of moth like you would see fluttering by your porch light on a summer night. Upon further inspection we found 2 dead ones on the floor by the window (actually a sliding glass door leading to a small balcony al la Imperial Palace). The carpet was also stained and had several cigarette burns, the furniture was nicked, scratched, and broken (the leg at the night stand was very crooked and was only standing because it was leaned against the wall). In addition the tub faucets leaked and the toilet had what appeared to be rust stains (at least I hope they were only rust stains…)
For its purpose, it was fine. We spend all of about 2 hours there (just to freshen up and relax before heading to the airport). However, if we had book the room to actually spend the night, I would have left and looked for another room at another hotel.
Over the course of the weekend, we did play in the San Remo casino. It is small, has a limited selection of slots, but they did offer several $5.00 tables and the dealers were very friendly. I would play here again, but certainly not stay here.
