First a disclaimer: I'm partial to Green Valley Ranch, in part because we live less than five miles from it. But it has lots going for it, including a very accessible location at the side of Route 215, the Beltway. You can get from there to the Strip in about 15 minutes.
If you're looking for nice outdoor swimming and relaxing, GVR excels in that department also. I'd be happy to link you to my online album of photos showing the Whiskey Beach recreation area of GVR. Just send me an e-mail.
Rooms at Green Valley Ranch normally go for $200 and up, so if you can book it for less than $100, that would be a pretty good deal.

We haven't stayed at the GVR but plan on checking it out when we vivist in May. We have stayed at the JW (when it was the Regent). I can tell you that the rooms were awesome. The bathrooms were huge w/ a seperate watercloset, huge seperate shower and whirlpool tub. Some of the rooms have (very, as in clothing optional ;) ) private balconies w/ deck furniture that are wonderful for sitting outside in the evening or while enjoying your morning coffee. Our room looked right over one of the local golf courses. The casino was small by Vegas standards but had plenty of tables and machines for the size of the hotel (we thought). We had excellent food there too....if you go, have dinner at the XOX. The pool is beautiful too, lots of palm trees, grass and flowers. When we were there, they were in chapter 11 BK before the JW took over so it was a bit quiet (read: not crowded) but the service was better than excellent. From what I've seen on the web about the GVR, I can't see how you could go wrong w/ either one! Have a great trip. PS~ Dave, we "always" enjoy reading your great and informative posts! graemlins/beerchug.gif ~ John ~
