I have never stayed downtown or off strip. Next year I have a trade show in february but will return in april with my oldest son. I'd like to try something different. I went to GC to check out their buffet and realized how easy it is to get there via CAT or shuttle but I love to eat downtown, and there are so many choices and things to do all just steps away. I think that I'd like to try downtown. For some reason I am interested in Fitz, 4 Queens, the Plaza and LVC. I'm sure I will do fine in any of them since I spend little time in the hotel but I do like clean, comfortable and quiet. Comments? I am leaning more towards LVC and Plaza in that order. What would you do?

I have stayed in both. I would choose Las Vegas Club over the Plaza.
Have a good time! graemlins/wiggle.gif

Jimbo-- Plaza rooms are large, but I think you would like LVC better. Stayed at the Plaza one night this trip, and it wasn't bad.

It's getting hard to find a "deal" at the Fitz although, of course, their "everyday" price is good compared to the Strip. I consider it #2 Downtown after the GN so maybe it's worth it. The Plaza is also finicky with their deals and the rooms can be hit or miss. I would skip it unless a real deal came along. The LVC is your average Downtown digs with current great pricing ($20/nite) but that may change when/if the new owners take over. Same thing with the 4Q's although great deals (under $20) make it a winner now and I would pick it over the LVC all else being equal. Still a lot can/will change as we approach the new year. Don't know how far out these places are accepting reservations but, if it was me, I would be trying to lock in a reservation at current low pricing assuming I could get a cancelable one. I also wouldn't rule out the Lady Luck but the Boyd hotels (Fremont, MSS, California) although nice places are hard to justify without a special deal which they "never" have unless you have a gaming history. ;)

Excellent point about "New Owners". Almost all these places will be under new mgmt at various points over the next year. Without a whole lot to back it up, I think that the Nugget will become an even better place to stay & play (freed from the suits at MGM-Mirage), Lady Luck will not (new owners are all about timeshares). Plaza/LVC I worry about some, Jackie Gaughan (IMO) was cheap but treated the low-rollers decently. I was planning on a February trip to LVC with the boys, but we'll have to see how this all plays out.

Fitz was 35 bucks a night on Wednesday and Thursday.

I have stayed at Four Queens, Las Vegas CLub and I'm currently at Plaza. I've had outstanding rates at 4Q (south tower) & LVC (south tower) and been pleased with staff and the rooms. We have been comped a 3 night stay at Plaza. When we checked in yesterday, we were surprised when we were given a king suite in the north tower on the 20th floor. The room is the largest I've been in, however the bathroom is still small. Also, the room has a large balcony that overlooks the FSE.
Overall, I'd say the rooms are comparable and I'd choose the one with the best rates.

I've stayed in both. The LVC is my pick.

Another vote for LVC. The rooms are large, very clean and rates are excellent. If you really shop the deals you can get rooms there for as low as $20 a nite.
Also, their Great Moments Room is a truly terrific fine dining restaurant.

Thanks for your imput. I am inclined to try the LVC but it's good to know that all are acceptable in case it is not available or if there is a deal too good to be true (frugal).

This past weekend we used our 3 free nights at LVC. We were given a room in the south tower (1615) it was more worn than the room we had back in Feb. Although the room showed its age, it was still clean and comfortable. On Sun, we requested a room in the North tower (1217). We were quite surprised how much nicer the north tower rooms are compared to the south. The room was more updated/maintained, larger room, bathroom and TV. The only downside to the room was the giant LVC sign right outside the window, I never realized how bright the sign was! Luckily if both curtains were closed only a minimal amount of light shined through.
As we speak, I am spending a night at the LVC North Tower for $15 LVA coupon. Last summer, I stayed in Plaza South tower (same price).
I find both places to be comparable. Rooms are nice-sized.
We enjoyed both sites with perhaps slight edge to LVC.
