I have found a great rate on the Las Vegas Club hotel, but I'm not familiar with it. Can anyone tell me about the quality of the hotel, and what about noise level since it is near Freemont St.?
We had our first trip to Vegas last Summer and stay @ the Flamingo. We didn't get to go downtown, so I'm not sure what to expect.
any input would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Hey Susan--
I'm a big fan of the LV Club. If you want to go diggin' through old trip reports, I stayed there in July of 2002, and again this past January.
Now, the "deal" you get is a really low priced room, but they are the standard rooms in the South Tower. Older, closer to the canopy on Fremont Street, and thus a little noisier. For $10 more per night, you can 'upgrade' to the North Tower, which is a little further away from the noise of Fremont Street (our rooms overlooked the California and the Main Street Station), and the rooms have been refurbished within the last couple of years. For $10 more per night, you can get an "MVP Room" which is also in the North Tower, so the room is nicer, a little bigger, and has stuff included like a fridge. There are no suites at the LV Club.
It's a smaller hotel, but the staff is super-friendly and it's got a great casino, especially if you play blackjack.
Directly across Fremont Street is the Golden Gate, for you 99-cent shrimp cocktail fix, across Main Street is the Plaza, and out the "front" door by the registration desk is the California. You can cut through there to get to the Main Street Station and avoid the street (That side is a block away from the canopy, and there may be some 'unsavory' types around there...But PLENTY of cops are around, so no need to feel unsafe).
Anyhow, we love the place, and wouldn't hesitate to go back at all. Comps are fairly easy to come by, and aside from one bad experience during the Culinary Workers strike last June, the coffee shop is pretty good, and has a great deal on Steak & Eggs.
Oh yeah, and it's definitely within walking distance to EVERY downtown casino.
By the way, Travelaxe has the LV Club as a 2-star property, but our room there was MUCH nicer than Harrahs.

I had a good experience at the LVC. I would go back. Make sure you read about it on the CHEAPO web site.

We stayed at the LVC for the first time in Feb. We were pleasantly surprised by the property. We booked off of travelaxe, a south tower room was reserved. Upon check-in we asked for a North Tower room, we were offered a king-size room for no additional cost. But we declined because we needed double beds since my mom and her boyfriend were sharing the room with us. No doubles were available so we opted for the south tower room, which was bit older but it was very clean and comfortable. We did not hear any noise from Freemont St. Overall, we were very happy with LVC. We are planning on staying at LVC again in May.
Also, I actually prefer LVC over the Flamingo. I was disatisfied with our stay at Flamingo in July'02. Our room was in serious need of rennovation and the staff was rude and unaccomadating.

I was comped there back in '99 for three nights for hitttinh a royal on nickel Video pocker. :D (It was the last day and it wasn't a good trip gambling wise.) We stayed in the North Tower and the rooms were very nice. Wasn't in the room much it was a nice place to catch some ZZZ's and shower. I would definitely stay there again.

It's been a real long time since I stayed at the Flamingo and a few years since I stayed at the LVC. I stayed in a "standard" south tower room and, while it was not luxury, I felt it was better than the old , in need of repair/updating at the Flamingo. Hopefully by now the Flamingo has remodeled but it does show that even the expensive Strip properties are not always perfection. Figure on a Super 8 quality/size and you shouldn't be disappointed. One big caution to anyone from the Flamingo-There is NO pool or Spa at the LVC. You can use the pool at it's sister property, the Plaza, but that is only slightly better than your home pool and you do have to cross the street to the Plaza. It can be noisy if you go to bed prior to midnight but opting for a north tower room or getting a high room in the south tower will alleviate this. :D

LVC-
I stayed there end of last November for two nights, internet deal, south tower. Gave them $3k in VP action.
Mid-January e-mailed them, asking if they could do anything for me. Response 3 comped nights in South Tower (sat arrival) Feb 21-25.
Nice room #917, overlooking the Plaza pool and south down to the Rio. Love seat and two comfy chairs complimented a nice bathroom area.
It is now my home base for sure. Coffee shop-decent, $1 off any meal with slot club card. Fun promos. Great cocktail service at tables, some holes on the slot floor in the mornings.
Good attitude from employees all around.

Hi Susan!
Gotta give my standard downtown v strip response... I love staying downtown when I go to Vegas with the 'fella's, but I never stay there when I go with my wife.
You don't mention what time of year you are looking at going...if it's another summer trip, you should be able to find lots of good deals for Strip hotels.
It's obviously a very personal choice... we all have very different tastes, priorities, budgets, and types of entertainment we are looking for. There are lots more entertainment options on the Strip, and you can always visit downtown for a few hours.
Just my opinion.... tell us when you are going, and I'm sure you'll get lot's of helpful input.

You might want to visit dowtown before staying there, as there are a lot of people who are not fans of good ol' downtown.

I don't have anything new to add about the hotel choice, but wanted to mention that the Fremont Experience show stops around midnight (summer weekends it might go a little later?) so if you're going to bed around "normal" Vegas hours, it shouldn't be too bad, no matter where your room is.

Thanks to all for the information. I am planning on going in June. The rate I got was $20.00/weeknight, $40.00 on the weekend, and it says its for the "more desireable" North Tower rooms. I found out about it from the Viva Las Vegas newsletter. To get the offer, call 1-800-634-6532 option 1. You have to ask for the "Viva Las Vegas Newsletter" offer to get that rate. It sounds like its too great a deal to pass up at that price!
