Walking is such a big part of Vegas, I wonder how many people will use the monorail to get from casino to casino. When its extended to the airport will you forgo your grand entrance, and arrive bags in hand, off the monorail? I enjoy the crowds on the street, and love catching a cab for downtown runs, catching nevada's version of the el would feel too much like home. With so much money spent I just wondered how popular the monorail will be.

The monorail offers limited stations on the east side of the strip only, often with a hike through a casino, so it doesn't strike me as a convenient way of getting around.

We are staying at Aladdin in November, a hike from room to station, so can't see us the monorail

Good question!! I would also use it to get from downtown to the strip and back.

Good question...I see a lot of people excited about the monorail but I'm not sure how valuable it will be. I think people will ride it just for the experience which could make it very crowded for someone trying to get from place to place. I would think that the airport experience would be the worst of all. I think I would ride it if I was staying at the Sahara or LV Hilton as the station is pretty close to the hotel and you are a pretty long walk from anywhere else. Though if there was a convention going on, you'd have a heck of a time getting off and on. (Then again, if there was a big convention, I probably wouldn't be staying at the Hilton anyway). I think I would agree that it would a great way to get downtown...if it ever makes it that far.

I'll use it some. It's not real price competitive, but I like trains, and if I was staying south strip I'd definitely use it to make a run up to Sahara. If/when it goes to downtown and/or the airport, then it's a no brainer. Going back to your "el" comparison, I used that a lot in Chicago, everywhere I could.

Let's see.......14 dollars for a taxi ride or 3 for the monorail?

It's a tough decision..........

I took WAY too many taxi rides last week. I can't wait for the monoraIL to open.

I would definately use the monorail from the airport to a hotel that it stops at. If I'm staying somewhere on the other side of the street, then no. I've taken the bus from the airport to downtown with luggage and it was no big deal, so draging a bag along is not a big deal.

I plan to use the monorail for return trips at the end of a long day of wandering on foot. Wake up at the Luxor, wander up the strip, end up at the North end, and at the end of the day, monorail back to the MGM for $3.

That will rock! not to mention the savings when there is an airport-to-downtown route.

Will I forego a "grand entrance" to save a few bucks? Oh yeah!

That would be 2010 at the earliest, probably later.

That would be an airport run. In it's current form, longest trip is going from MGM to Sahara. For two people, taxi will be at or under $8, monorail $6, bus $4.

let me be more specific... I would ride it to a hotel that it stops near on that side of the strip. I would not ride it it I were going to, say, Mirage. :D

if i heard right, isn't the downtown extension of the monorail sooner than the airport one?

I would use the monorail. I love to go hotel hopping. When we take our family trip to Vegas in July it is just too hot to walk far so the monorail will be a welcome option.
