I thought of something a few days ago that I don't think I've ever posted, and thought it might be usefull to some people, especially since there have been a few people asking about doing Vegas solo lately.

I was in LV a couple of years ago for a week by myself for a seminar. I went to the Las Vegas Athletic Club and bought a weekly pass for some rediculously low price...like $45 for seven days.

The club (there are several, but I went to the main one on Maryland Parkway and...Sahara I believe)is really great. It's open 24 hrs which is nice in LV, as your schedule can get kinda wacky. This place is HUGE. It was really well lit, and had Tons of great equipment that was spaced out well. There were three main sections for working out....one big area with what seemed like over a hundred machines, a seperate free weight area, and a very cool cardio area that was the biggest I have ever seen. The cardio area had a huge tv wall at the front that played music videos, and there were tv's hanging from the ceiling too....you tuned into the sound on your walkman. There had to be...25 rows of 20 pieces each of arobic machines. Very cool.

In addition, the club has raquetball courts, and between the Men's and Women's (which are very big) there is a Lap Pool and another pool with an "Aerobics Pool" with like chest high water that you can walk laps in and do other exercises. There is also the biggest jacuzzi I have ever seen. On the sides of the pool area are a big Sauna on one side, and a steam room on the other. Very Cool.

There is a good smoothie bar near the entrance, that I believe also had salads and other healthy food.

The entrance to the club has several small businesses in it. A hair salon, a couple of small clothes stores, and a massage place. I got a massage there for $40, and it was great. The cool thing is that you can get a good massage in a professional atmosphere, and it's not going to cost you $200, like it would at a Casino Spa. (Frugal Jim, you know I am writing this for you...hahahahaa)

Anyway, this is a great way to feel really good for much less than it would cost to go to one of the Spa's in a hotel. Get a little exercise in, work up a good sweat on a climber, hit the jacuzzi for a bit, maybe a little steam, then grab a smoothie and get a massage... I Guarantee you will be relaxed and ready to enjoy the town!

That's a great trip! I seem to remember that David Berman's wife, Roz, joined a local gym on one trip for a week or two. I wonder if it was the same one.

Thanks for sharing it. Personally just walking from my room to the buffet is more exercise than I usually get in a week so I stay away from the gym when I'm in town, but I know some people can't dream of parting with their stairmaster. smile.gif
