What restaurant is a "must" in the downtown area?
We are not very much into buffets...I dont want to eat alot and then be too tired to sit at the slots! Is there any just casual type places to dine that are open all hours?

What kind of food are you looking for? Price? The deli at Golden Gate is pretty good for a quick bite. I love the Brew Pub at Main Street Station, but that's a block off of Fremont Street on Main and Ogden.
There are some great restaurants downtown, but not 24 hour places.

1. The Carson St Cafe at the Nugget is good.
2. Make at least one trip to the aforementioned brewpub.
3. Both the Pasta Pirate and the Redwood Grill at the California have reasonable specials.
4. It is mandatory to have a 99 cent shrimp cocktail at the Golden Gate.

Race Rock Downtown
I would suggest this somewhat new
race theme restaraunt to anyone when downtown.
They have a great menu and pretty cool atmosphere. The service is fast. All the witresses are dressed in racing suits(they look so cute).
As you go to the dining area upstairs on the escalator there is a top fuel dragster standing straight up in the air. Also miss budweiser hangs from the ceiling and much more.
Back to the menu. This place is kind of like one of those eight dollar burger places, except theirs are I think six dollar burgers.
This is what I had first time,it was alot better than planet hollywood which I had the previous night.
While enjoying my meal I saw a paty at another table being served the biggest plate of food in my life. It looked good 2. So I asked our waitress what that was,she said its our nachos or taco salad,I never can remember until I am there.
The next day we went back and just ordered the nachos. I love mexican food and this was biggest bestest nachos I have ever had!
And the best part is the price I think it is only six bucks.
There is enough food in this (appetizer) to feed a party of four, what a deal!!
I think it is a nice break from all the buffet food and the atmosphere is awesome.

Mark:
Seemed so funny to see this corner all quiet and dark. They are building a big complex across from it to house shops and parking and the like; looks like it will be ready next year. They detour the strip buses now because of the construction and take a left just before the old stop at Fremont (Carson?) and then the first right and drop you off on the other side of the building near the side entrance to Fitzgerald's. The pickup for buses back down the strip is still the same place.
If you like the auto atmosphere, the Nascar Cafe at Sahara is the closest I guess but haven't done anything but walked through.

Yeah,
That thing they are building across the street has been under construction for it seems like for 2 or 3 years now.
Thats 2 bad because race rock was really neat and since I usually stay @ Lady Luck It was really convienient for me.

Sorry Mark:
I still mourn the passing on of the Silver City Casino so that's life! For a good meal try Bay City Diner in the Golden Gate. 24 hour specials are Prime Rib dnners for 6.95 and a 16 oz. Porterhouse steak dinner for 7.77 (my favorite). Not great atmosphere but a good value meal without the wait.
They have been working on something across from Race Rock for years but this is almost finished on the outside. My guess is a late summer or fall opening.

Can also add Center Stage grille at the plaza and the coffee shop at the LV club ( great midnight specials). The shoe's deli is great and loved their food at their coffee shop wherever the hell it is.

Carson ST. CAfe @ the Golden Nugget is 24 hours and is delicious.
Want a good steak? Go to the redwood grill @ the cal. Want an excellent piece of meat in a classy setting for around $30 go to Binion's RAnch.
Another decent 24 hr. job is the joint at the las vegas club. I think it's called the dugout. I've also heard the Great Moments room @ LVC and 2nd st grill @ the fremont are solid choices for fine dining.
As Sonya said, gotta go the the deli @ the Golden Gate. Eat a shrimp cocktail for me.

Hey Everybody--
Just got back today, and I have to brag that I had 3 shrimp cocktails this weekend at the Golden Gate! Woo Hoo. Add a beer and a deli sandwich and you have a great meal.
Got comped for 2 at Binions coffeeshop, had a great breakfast after making $500 at the craps table.
Also ate at the Nugget buffet once. It was better than I expected (can't go wrong with breakfast). I haven't had a bad meal yet downtown, but then again, I don't stray too far from Binion's, the Nugget, the Golden Gate, or the LV Club. The plaza has a McD's and of course the 4 queens has a Burger King. And you can always get a dog and a beer from the vendors on Freemont Street, but it was too darn cold this weekend to spend anytime outside!
Cheers
Mikey
